Exercising imagination. Provoking thought. Reforming reality.
Jered Gering used to spend recess in his own world dreaming up new adventures. Nowadays, he helps readers see enduring biblical truths from unexpected angles—through imaginative storytelling that opens space for reflection, wonder, and discovery. He lives with his wife in California’s Bay Area, where he teaches third grade and serves on staff at a ministry school.
_______________
I write imaginative, speculative fiction that places timeless biblical ideas in unfamiliar settings. I’m less interested in offering answers than in making room—for wonder, reflection, and the kind of wrestling that comes from seeing familiar truths at an unexpected angle. These are stories meant to slow you down, stir the imagination, and invite you to look again.
My stories span multiple genres—from Biblical fiction to science fiction, from whimsical fairytales to angelic warfare.
I'm a reader, writer, thinker, watcher, dreamer... I'm an introvert with an affinity for puns and hip-hop music. I'm not saying I could beat you in a rap battle, but I'd love to try. I'm also a twin's brother, a Pastor's Kid, and a proud uncle.
Physically, I grew up in the Pacific Northwest, went to college at a university near Dallas, and currently live in the San Francisco Bay Area.
Imaginatively, I've been all over the world – no, worlds. I've been to infinity AND beyond. I've experienced the side effects of a radioactive spider's bite. I've seen the Stone Table. I've peered into the Mirror of Galadriel. And I've discovered new lands and stories nobody but me has experienced…yet.
Some of my favorite literary influences include C.S. Lewis, Ray Bradbury, J.R.R. Tolkien, Ted Dekker, Nathaniel Hawthorne, Frank Peretti, Edgar Allen Poe, Suzanne Collins, H.G. Wells, Garth Nix, Brandon Sanderson, James L. Rubart, Robert Jordan, and more. The list is always growing!
